This mechanic, and the reason it was familiar, was due to Spectral Agony from Guild Wars 1. I am also looking forward to what you guys think about it, and what it will bring to the table. I might be missing some crucial information that would change my outlook on the mechanic, but as it is, I'm skeptical. Agony feels like it's only present to make you do a lot of things to stop it from bothering you further. I'm not saying that Agony and Enrage are exactly alike (GW2 certainly has a lot more to see and do than Diablo III), I'm just under the impression that it's similarly uninspired. By "quickly" i mean "full health to dead in a matter of seconds." This didn't add more interesting gameplay, it just resulted in favoring higher DPS instead of more interesting mechanics. It's like they took a page from the design documents on Inferno difficulty in Diablo III (yeah I went there) and laid out a similar plan as the enrage timers.įor those who haven't played the latest Diablo game: If you've been fighting an elite mob (think veteran or champion equivalents) for more than a few minutes, the "enrage timer" will activate and all players within range will quickly lose health. It really sounds as if they introduced this random BS debuff that will eventually kill you unless you grind the dungeon enough to obtain an anti-debuff infusion, so you won't get killed by that debuff. I don't view it as a new mechanic, I just view it as a crutch to actually developing interesting game mechanics.
